How do I capture an image using the Snipping Tool software?

Creating graphs yourself can be a lengthy process, especially if you’re struggling to meet a deadline. At the University of Lincoln we have the Snipping Tool software that enables you to capture images, which you can then either paste it into your document or save it and upload the image onto a web-based platform, such as a blog.

First decide on what image you want to capture, and have the graph ready to capture on your screen (this one is about the worth of global marine ports & services 2007-11 from the Marketline database). Always remember to properly reference though!

  • Start > all programs > accessories > launch Snipping Tool
  • File > New (the box disappears and  a cross appears)
  • Hold the left-hand side of the mouse down and drag a square or rectangle over you image
  • Release the mouse and the image you have captured appears
  • copy image and paste into your document
  • OR to save the image > File > Save As

Online tutorial on the Marketline database

Marketline is a very popular database used for market research purposes where researching country information, industry and company profiles is available. It is also good for international business for students wishing to find out about businesses outside of the United Kingdom. Please view Marketline’s video which gives an overview of the database, and an insight into its formidable potential. I would recommend some investigation into the database section of Marketline where you can generate some very interesting and unique charts, such as one I have just conducted on broadband activity in Afghanistan.  Why not try to generate a chart to test Marketline’s impressive archive?

Finding company information

This PowerPoint video includes two videos (FAME & Marketline) that we’ve produced (in Camtasia) on finding company information. Based on an imaginary assignment on British Airways PLC and the UK airline industry, the video is designed to show students how to find financial statements, company profiles and management tool analyses. There is a full screen option on the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.

Finding Tourism statistics on Marketline

Having trouble finding historical Tourism statistics? Marketline on the e-library section of the Portal might well be what you are looking for. You can download spreadsheets of really useful information from this database with archives going back twenty years. If you wish, you can select the full screen option to play this audio video at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
